Shared Branching with IDCheck – New Steps to Take
Shared Branching is a credit union member perk available to FFCCU members that gives you access to thousands of credit union locations across the nation. It also opens up a CO-OP Shared Branching ATM network which includes over 30,000 ATMs you can utilize without the typical surcharge. Access to shared branching lets you accomplish many of your day-to-day financial tasks: like depositing a check or paying a loan, while you are a guest at another participating credit union.
While this is an enormous benefit to members (that frequently gives them access to more locations and ATMs than customers of even large for-profit banks), it also creates a space where criminals can more easily perpetrate fraud. While the Tellers and Financial Service Representatives at your favorite branch might know you by name, they won’t necessarily know all of our shared branching friends by sight. A new quick and easy procedure will help prevent fraud while keeping Shared Branching a convenient option!
Introducing: IDCheck!
So What Is IDCheck and Why Does Shared Branching Need It?
Account takeover fraud continues to evolve and the number of instances is increasing. Velera’s IDCheck supports a cross-platform fraud strategy by helping verify a member’s identity to effectively fight account takeover and identity theft for in-branch fraud. Tellers enjoy an increase in verification rates and a higher level of confidence when verifying member IDs. If you use a Shared Branch location, a teller can now identify and authenticate members in the branch using a QR code and one-time passcode multi-factor authentication verification. This additional layer of authentication – called IDCheck – will be used for loan payments, cashier’s checks, deposits, withdrawals, transfers, and account inquiries.
When Will IDCheck be Necessary for Shared Branching?
If you present an Out-of-state ID at a participating credit union, you will be required to validate your identity via a smart device, prior to performing a Shared Branching withdrawal transaction.
How do I Do This?
We’ve made it as easy as possible to move quickly through the IDCheck steps!
- Scan the QR code you’ll find in a shared branching location or visit verify.coop.org.
- Select FFCCU (Firefighters Community Credit Union) from a drop-down list. If you are coming to FFCCU from another credit union, select your home CU’s name from the menu.
- Enter your member number and the last four digits of your social security number.
- Upload a snapshot of a valid photo ID (front and back, Driver’s License is easiest) and take a selfie.
Tip: Save your validation for an even quicker experience next time! - Show your one-time passcode to the teller (passcode is valid for 20 minutes).
